| Wrinkles - they take years to come of age, and when they do appear they're considered an unwelcome guest. While facial lines, folds and creases may be considered by some as character lines, many would like to see a different picture. Your patients can now... "Put their best face forward" by adding to your practice Dermal Filler treatments, one of the most frequently performed non-surgical procedure to reduce facial lines and wrinkles.
Facial lines and wrinkles are caused by the wearing down of the natural collagen support layer that lies just beneath your skin. Creams can moisturize or exfoliate the surface of your skin, but they cannot eliminate the lines or wrinkles that are caused by the wearing away of the underlying collagen support layer. |

| What is Collagen? The skin is composed of two layers: The uppermost layer of skin, called the epidermis, acts as a protective barrier. The epidermis controls the loss of water from cells and tissues, and without it your body would quickly dehydrate. Just beneath the epidermis is the second layer of skin, called the dermis. This layer is composed primarily of a protein called Collagen. Collagen forms a network of fibers that provides a framework for the growth of cells and blood vessels. As the primary component of the dermis, collagen acts as the support structure for your skin. Unlike Hyaluronic acid it provides volume to the skin. Dermal Fillers made with Hyaluronic acid: Fillers made with Hyaluronic acid have become a popular choice today in the ongoing war against wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar molecule that helps moisturize the skin. It is found in large quantities in young skin but over time pollutants, sunlight, and of course natural aging causes levels to plummet, leading to loss of plumpness. There are many different types of Fillers with different molecular weights and viscosity. Depending on how much volume is needed and where you are injecting, a layering technique if often used with a combination of two different types of fillers for a better aesthetic outcome. Hyaluronic acid based fillers made their way into the States in 2004. With products such as Restylane & Captique, Hylaform and Hylaform Plus. Hylaform and Hylaform plus are both made from the roosters comb. Restylane and Captique are both bio-engineered and have no animal bi -products. Cosmoplast/Cosmoderm a human based collagen is a less expensive choice not requiring a skin test. The typical Cosmoderm/Cosmoplast filler lasts 3-4 months, Hylaform lasts apx. 4 months Hylaform Plus apx. 5-6 months. Restylane up to 6 months. Captique 4-6 month. One of the most exciting products I have used in a long time is Revanesse and Revanesse Ultra, a much longer lasting bio engineered Hyaluronic acid lasting 6 to10 months and I find it much easier to inject and mold than the other bio-engineered products available. Below is a comparison chart for the various products.
